Jay is a Los Angeles, California-based professional bassist, violist, string arranger, composer, musician contractor, and music director. Born and raised in Burlington, Vermont, Terrien holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music from the prestigious Bates College in Lewiston, Maine. Terrien also spent time studying viola and Electroacoustic composition at the University of East Anglia, in Norwich, England.
Jay has quickly established himself as a highly sought-after recording session multi-instrumentalist, music director, musician contractor, and touring musician in the Los Angeles, CA music scene. Well-known for his technical proficiency and amazing tone/great feel on several stringed instruments, it’s his diverse musical appetite, ability to tastefully serve any song, and unabashed love for all musical genres that keeps his phone ringing.
As an arranger, Jay composed, conducted, contracted, and performed his own string arrangements for the ALIEN ANT FARM album, “Always And Forever”. He’s composed string arrangements and performed with pop star ANDY GRAMMER on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. He performed with THE BODEANS at Chicago Symphony Center and at The Troubadour in Los Angeles, and wrote string arrangements and performed with 6-time Grammy nominee MOBY on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Jay also played viola with RIHANNA, KANYE WEST, and DRAKE at The NBA All-Star Game at The Staples Center, Los Angeles, CA. He’s worked with CHRIS MANN (Finalist on the hit NBC show “The Voice”, Singer on hit FOX TV show “GLEE”, former Sony/BMG artist, toured with Grammy Award-winner India.Arie and Tony Award-winner Idina Menzel) and toured with YouTube sensation singer-songwriter CLARA C.
