KB’S 4-STEP VOCAL RECORDING MANTRA

I am in the middle of recording my next record, which is essentially a collaborative global recording project: #ProjectELECTRICO. We’ve come off an amazing journey thus far—from the Venice in California to the Venice in Italy, and from Istanbul in Turkey to Oaxaca de Juarez in México.

As I prepare to record some vocals over the next 12 weeks in Austin, LA, and Ireland, I am reminded of my personal recording mantra. I thought I’d share it with you in the event it might be helpful to you as a singer, artist, or entrepreneur, because the message has no boundaries.

KB’S 4-STEP VOCAL RECORDING MANTRA

1. I am divinely on time.
2. I acknowledge what I bring when I walk into a room and when I walk out of a room.
3. I am brave enough to show who I really am.
4. I embody with DeLiberate intention what I want to feel and express.

In our fast-paced society we are inundated with technology bells and marketing dings incessantly, and I don’t know about you, but for me those fabulous incoming text-bombs, or funny cat videos can distract me from becoming who I’m meant to be in life, or distract me from just “being genuinely me” in the moment. My mantra is more about finding authentic connection with ourselves and our world around us.

PERFORMANCE PREPARATION FOR SINGERS BY VOCAL EMPOWERMENT COACH DOT TODMAN

Ask Yourself: What do I bring when I sing?

C.O.R.E. Vocal Power

C – Connect to heart and feet. Release what I don’t need.
O – Objective. What’s my mind, heart, body connection with this song? Embody the character. Know the intention with the song.
R – Resonate. Where is the sweet spot in my song? Where is the climax, peak? How do I do my energy in my song?
E – Exercise. Sing!

Practice throughout the day. Don’t pretend you don’t know who you are. Do it masterfully. Be grounded and centered. It’s about the quality of your breath. —Dot Todman | Vocal Empowerment Coach
