Teatro Macedonio Alcalá is a beautiful theater built between 1903 and 1909 in the elaborate French style that was fashionable during Porfirio Díaz’s seven term presidency. Recently restored after the 1999 earthquake, it is a venue for many cultural events in Oaxaca from ballet, concerts and plays to art exhibits and movie nights.
